Being a resident reviewer requires 2-3 hour of prep, a half-day to a full day attendance at the review, and 1-2 hours post-review to read the report.

Resident reviewers attend the review and provide, when requested, feedback from the residents. They are guided through the process at the review, so don’t be worried about forgetting what to do. At the end of the review, the faculty reviewer compiles the report and the resident reviewer verifies the content (they may need to submit something if they feel the faculty reviewer missed anything). As a side note, residents may only review programs that are not their home program, so, for example, if you are in Internal Medicine, you will not be allowed to review Internal Medicine.

We would like to encourage our Distributed Medical Education residents to participate in internal reviews. The internal review requires that the resident reviewer attends the review physically (ie. no teleconferencing); however, if a resident reviewer is willing to travel to downtown Vancouver (where all of the reviews happen), PAR-BC will reimburse the cost for travel. Internal reviews are a perfect enhancement to professional development, and are a great way to experience various fields of medicine.
