2. Do I have to purchase CMPA?
Although the collective agreement compels the employer to “indemnify and save harmless” (See Article 19.01) for any resident who incurs a legal liability to pay damages, PAR-BC strongly recommends that its members purchase CMPA. This is because the hospital’s coverage protects not only the resident but also the hosiptal and any one else named. Should your hospital require that you have CMPA, the hospital will reimburse the resident its annual cost (See Article 19.02).
3. Do I need disability insurance?
The current collective agreement does provide for some employer paid benefits, including sick leave and long term disability (See Article 11.01 and Article 16.07); but you may choose to purchase additional coverage. For more information on selecting private insurance please read the disability insurance primer.
4. I was injured at work, what should I do?
Any resident injured on the job is covered by Worksafe BC. Workplace injuries include needle stick injuries. Any workplace injury should be reported and an Incident Report should be completed regardless of whether or not you seek treatment, or take time off work. That documentation is your protection should the injury recur in the future and you find yourself requiring treatment or medical leave. This is particularly important when needle stick injuries are involved.
Please contact PAR-BC to discuss your injury and the steps to follow.
5. What is CAIR?
CAIR is the federation of Canadian Anglophone provincial associations. It works towards consensus and advocacy for policies of national interest. It is governed by a Board of Directors on which PAR-BC has representation. All members of PA-BC are members of CAIR. Visit the CAIR website for more information.
