1. Do I have to sign my evaluation if I disagree with it?
Signing an evaluation doesn’t signify agreement. It simply means the evaluation has been discussed with you. PAR-BC suggests inserting the words “Disagree with the evaluation” below your signature. If you disagree with your evaluation, at minimum, you should submit a written rebuttal within 10 days of receiving the evaluation and ask that it be appended to your evaluation and placed in your file.
Significant concerns should be addressed. You are entitled to appeal the evaluation within 10 days of receiving it. But first, discuss your concerns with your supervisor. If you are unable to obtain resolution at that stage, or if you are uncomfortable doing so, request a meeting with your program director.
If you believe your concerns have still not been addressed contact PAR-BC.
2. I am experiencing issues with my program, what should I do?
PAR-BC is available to support residents in anyway possible. Please contact PAR-BC if you require assistance.
In working with your program, get to know the training objectives established for your program, your rights from UBC, and the collective agreement. Ask for supporting documentation. Your program should not rely on any documentation which it will not share with you because it is “confidential”. Be thorough in your own documentation, and do not let issues and discussions drag on. You must be given the opportunity to respond to any allegations.
Should there be any disciplinary meetings with your program, you are entitled to have representation present. Please contact PAR-BC for support.
Should you need confidential counseling or support outside of PAR-BC or your program, please contact EFAP or PHP.
3. Am I allowed to access my file?
Residents are entitled to access their file. Review Article 30 of the collective agreement for more information.
4. Can I write prescriptions?
Residents and fellows are eligible to apply for prescribing privileges after 3 months of postgraduate training. For a complete description of the process and procedures please contact your program directly, as this privilege must be facilitated through them.
5. Can I transfer programs?
UBC has a procedure in place for residents who wish to transfer programs. It is available here.
If you are considering transferring programs, please contact PAR-BC.
